When Should I Get My Hair Done Before an Event?

When to schedule hair services before a wedding or event

Timing your haircut or color before a big event makes a real difference in how your hair looks and feels on the day. Whether it is a wedding, prom, job interview, or vacation, here is how far in advance to schedule each service at Sofia Loren Salon.

Haircut Timing

Schedule 1–2 weeks before
This gives your cut time to settle and grow in slightly so it looks natural rather than “just cut.” If you are getting a major change in length or style, move this to 3–4 weeks before so you have time to adjust.

Color and Highlights Timing

Single Process Color
5–7 days before
All-over color looks its best about a week after application. The initial vibrancy softens slightly into a natural, polished look.
Highlights or Balayage
2–3 weeks before
Highlighted hair needs a couple of washes to blend fully. Booking 2–3 weeks out also gives time for a toner adjustment if needed.
Color Correction
4–6 weeks before
If you need a major color change, start early. Color corrections can require multiple sessions. Your stylist will create a timeline to reach your goal color before the event.

Treatments and Smoothing

1–2 weeks before
A Brazilian blowout gives you smooth, frizz-free hair for 10–12 weeks. Getting it 1–2 weeks before your event means the treatment is fully set and your hair is at its smoothest.
3–5 days before
A deep conditioning treatment adds shine and softness. Schedule it a few days before so your hair has time to absorb the moisture without feeling heavy.

Extensions

2–4 weeks before
If you want extensions for an event, book your installation 2–4 weeks before. This gives you time to get comfortable styling them and allows for any adjustments. For clip-in extensions (single-event use), they can be applied the day of.

Event-Day Styling

Updos, Waves, and Formal Styling
Day of event
Formal styling like updos and Hollywood waves is always done the day of the event for the freshest look. For weddings, book a hair trial 4–8 weeks before to finalize your style. For prom, book your appointment 4–6 weeks in advance since prom season fills up fast.
